Spanish is a fantastic language to learn, and is becoming increasingly useful for citizens of the United States. It is the first foreign language I attempted to learn, and it holds a special place in my heart.
I feel that I should make a few things clear before giving this list of resources. One is that I didn’t learn Spanish on my own. I suffered through years of high school and college courses before I realized I learned more watching Spanish movies and television, and talking with Spanish speaking friends. This list of resources is based on what other people have told me, and what has worked for me in other languages. Keep in mind that Spanish is one of the most spoken languages in the world. If you are serious about learning it, try to find a native speaker friend (or boyfriend/girlfriend) who can help you learn. After some time working with these resources as well as talking with a native speaker, you should be able to speak Spanish both well and confidently. Buena suerte!
The Necessities
Loquella FSI Course: Many people say that FSI is the best way to learn Spanish. I learned much of my Spanish by tearing my hair out in high school, and I wish I could have used this course then. After finishing this course, you will be well on your way to understanding Spanish. Keep in mind that the FSI courses can be boring and tedious, but remember that after finishing them you really know much more than when you started.
